The creation of a community campus for the south/east side of Freeport was conceived in the early 1990s.  The campus would provide services and programs for children and youths of all ages as well as services and programs for adults.

Private citizens and business leaders united and worked together in one of the biggest fundraising efforts in Stephenson County. No federal or state money was used in this effort.

The King Community Campus was completed in November of 1995 and occupies an entire city block about a quarter mile from downtown Freeport. The campus includes a park area, a huge playground and a large parking lot.

Amity's Learning Center, After School Program, Regional Office of Education Pre-school (PASS), Head Start and the Boys and Girl's Club offer a wide variety of educational and recreational services.

Adult services include: Basketball Leagues, Community Organization Meeting Rooms, Work Out/Weight Training rooms, Pre-school Screening and Assessment, School District Sports Events and High School Dances.
